A year slips by so quickly. In some ways, many things are still discouraging - our federal government seems determined to make it hard for one to be proud to be a Canadian.  A mayoral election where the incumbent has dropped out due to health reasons, only to have his brother step in to the election - neither of which are candidates to be proud of.  A conservative candidate who has taken over the lead from the progressive candidate - the conservative a perpetual ne'er-do-well who seems mostly to look favourable after the train wreck of the incumbent. A new year, winter at last has retreated. Political changes - a municipal election campaign, with the incumbent mayor possibly finally self-destructing to the point where even his most ardent followers won't vote for him.  A provincial election imminent, where a new premier is tarred with her predecessor's failings, a conservative leader that is not trusted (including by his own party supporters), the NDP leader triggering the election despite the governing party espousing a budget that her party could have penned. Some of you may be wondering a bit - tomorrow (October 14th) is the official Thanksgiving holiday here in Canada.  Although it is a statutory holiday, so the date for it was chosen rather than evolved, it reflects the fact that the end of the growing season comes a little earlier here in "The Great White North", as the brothers Bob and Doug would have it.
